We usually have a runny nose when catching a cold. Yet our parents tell us not to blow our nose so hard. Why is that?

When we blow our nose very hard, the air can move from our nose to our ears and cause problems. When we have a cold, the tube that connects our nose to our ears gets smaller. So the air can’t go back to the nose and stays in the ear. This can hurt the eardrum (鼓膜) and might make our ears ring or even cause hearing loss. If the things from our nose go into our ears with viruses (病毒) and bacteria (細菌), it can cause ear infections (感染).
我們擤鼻子太過(guò)用力時(shí)，空氣會(huì )從鼻腔流向耳朵——這可能會(huì )造成一些問(wèn)題。感冒的時(shí)候，連接鼻子和耳朵的通道會(huì )變窄。因此，空氣無(wú)法回到鼻腔，只能留在耳朵里。這可能會(huì )傷害鼓膜，引起耳鳴，甚至損傷聽(tīng)力。如果從鼻子進(jìn)入耳道的物質(zhì)帶有病毒和細菌，就可能引發(fā)耳道感染。

Clear your nose the right way
To clear your nose the right way, just close one nostril（鼻孔）at a time and softly blow. If your nose is blocked up, putting a warm towel (毛巾) on your nose and forehead（前額）can also help you feel better.
如何正確地擤鼻涕？首先需要單次堵住一個(gè)鼻孔，然后輕輕擤出。如果你覺(jué)得鼻塞，試試看在鼻子和前額上敷一塊熱毛巾，這也許會(huì )讓你舒服一點(diǎn)~
Since your nose and throat are connected, you can also try to get the mucus (粘液) out from your mouth. It’s a good idea to take a deep breath with the nose, then cough quickly to get out the mucus in your mouth.
因為鼻腔和咽喉是相通的，如果不會(huì )擤鼻涕，你也可以通過(guò)“咯痰”排出：用鼻子深呼吸，快速咳嗽排出即可~
